• Question: If you ever have cancer but you manege to get out of it, will it effect you in futer ?

      Sometimes cancer can return to people who’ve been treated for it. But the good news is usually once you’ve had cancer you will get tested regularly, so it can be dealt with quickly if it does come back – this makes it much easier to treat.

      Sadly, if you have cancer, although a lot of treatments work well to kill it, it is very hard to get all the cells. That means that often a few cells survive the treatment and become resistant to the drugs that were used the first time. So although the first cancer will appear to have gone completely it can come back, and you will get sick again. However, we’re working on better treatments that will get rid of ALL the cells by using combinations of drugs. Also if you’ve have cancer you will have regular checks for several years after to try and spot if it has come back as soon as possible.
