• Question: @jasonking What makes the earth spin on an axis? Do the other planets spin aswell?

      Hi, all the planets spin. I’m not sure exactly why but I guess it would simply be much harder and less likely for a planet not to rotate as there is no friction in space so any force on it would start it moving. Planets spin on an axis because this acts like a gyroscope. This happens when anything spins, and means that if you try to change the angle at all, the rotation means that the forces always work to counteract it. This gives you stability and ensures that the planets all move in an orderly way. Because the universe probably started off totally random things probably ended up like that because it’s the most stable way. I hope I explained that OK, it’s a bit complicated!
