As well as having the plant cells containing all the DNA to build a new plant, seed also contain lots of nutrients to get them started when they start growing. This changes depending on the species but generally has some protein, starch and phosphate in it. All the things a baby plant could wish for.

A plant embryo, a supply of food for the embryo and a seed coat to protect it.
