A thank you from your winner Hayley

I’m a scientist has absolutely confirmed that communicating science is my favourite thing about science. The questions from the students really reminded me of the curiosity I had when I was younger that brought me to science in the first place. I really enjoyed how bizarre some of the questions were and particularly those that really made me have to think! The range of topics that came up was astounding! I’d expected a lot of students to be interested in marine life, but actually found that more were interested in space, the origins of the universe and various future apocalypse ideas (zombies were really popular!!). Some of the questions were very philosophical and reminded me that although we have to try and treat science as data and hypotheses, there are a lot of very important questions that people want science to help them answer. I’m a Scientist – you’ve decided to let JASON go

We’ve counted, checked and rechecked the votes and now it’s game over for… JASON This leaves just “Adventurous, energetic and passionate” Sophie and “Happy, enthusiastic, talkative!” Hayley to fight it out for the £500 prize tomorrow. What would they both do with the money, you ask? Sophie says “I have a one of a kind instrument for measuring underwater sound in the same way as a fish ear.. I want to take it on trips in ‘lab in a lorry’, ‘the Bristol festival of nature’ and to schools to demonstrate how sound works underwater and how fish and other animals hear” and Hayley says “I would use the money to take some children from one of our local schools to the beach to learn about the ocean – many have never been”. I’m a Scientist – 1st out is… Nathan

It’s been a fantastic event so far and the scientists have worked hard, answering hundreds of questions between them. But on Friday there can only be one winner in each zone, so some of them have to go.
