Technically the sea over flows everyday when we have tides! Other things can cause the sea to flow on to what we now call land – storm surges and tsunamis for example. Also, in the past, the sea level has been higher, because there has been less ice on Earth (like at the North and South Pole). One reason scientist s worry about global warming is that it seems to be causing the ice to melt on some parts of the land, this will eventually raise sea level and flood low lying areas, if it continues.
