Enzymes enzymes enzymes! Your digestive tract is a long tube from your mouth to your anus and each organ along the way has special enzymes that do a different job (enzymes break down your food so it can be absorbed through your gut lining and get into your blood). Amylase in your spit starts it off in your mouth breaking down carbohydrates, acid in your stomach breaks down proteins, pancreatic juices continue the job as the food goes through your small intestine, then water and minerals are reabsorbed in the colon before defacating out the waste.
