Hi, well your school will probably have a career’s adviser of some sort, but the best thing to do is exactly what you are doing right now and try to talk to some scientists or engineers! It’s a very wide area, and there are so many options depending on what you’re interested in. If you don’t know what exactly you want to do right now (and most people don’t at school!) just try to keep your options open. I wanted to be an engineer when I chose my A-levels, and didn’t do biology. I then decided I quite liked living things, so swung back that way to do biochemistry for my degree, and haven’t looked back. It can be quite confusing, but I always thought as long as you try to follow what is interesting at the time, and don’t cut down your options too much, you will find a way. Good luck!
Ask your careers advisor at school or any family friends who you know are scientists or engineers (ask your parents if any of their friends or colleagues are scientists and you can ask them how and why they got into science).
Scientists and engineers have lots in common in the way that they think about the world and problem solving so you don’t need to decide which you want to do until you finish A-Levels.
If you’re interested in science/engineering as a career then stick with it throughout school and as you get older you’ll find which you find most interesting!
