Cells were first seen in 1665 by Robert Hooke, so we have known about them for a very long time. They can relatively easily be seen by a microscope, and big ones, such as the amoebas that live in pond water can almost be seen with a magnifying glass. There are thousands of experiments done every day with cells, so the answer to your question is probably about a million. We definitely know we’re made up of them. We know quite a bit about how they work too, but there are still lots of mysteries. Which is good, because it keeps me in a job.
