• Question: how many species of animal are there in the world, which one is your favourite?

      We don’t know yet! We estimate 7.77 million species of animals, but there’s so many places we still haven’t explored that we have only described about 12% of all the animals out there! There are still millions of species we’ve never even seen or heard of before! The sad thing is that we are now in a mass extinction event (similar to when the dinosaurs died out) because of the way humans are treating the planet, so lots of species are going extinct before we even discover them. Most species of animal are insects.. there are loads more species of insects than there are of mammals. I don’t really have a favorite, my favorite thing is biodiversity.. that means there being lots of species that interact because they all rely on each other to survive (ie for food and habitats etc).
