• Question: If your asleep does your body funtion the same way, as it does when your not asleep?

      I think it does mostly. Your brain probably does a few different things – like you don’t really dream when you’re awake for example. Your breathing probably changes a bit too, hence why people snore!

      Your metabolism is slowed down when you’re asleep, which is why breathing slows down. Your vital functions keep working like digestion, heart beat, breathing, but all slowed down. Your hearing still works so sounds work their way into your dreams and you can be woken up by sounds (like an alarm). This is an adaptive function to keep you safe.
