• Question: My mum says we are not on the inside of the world we are on the surface of it but the how come from whatever part of the world you are on you have to go up out of the world to get into space :-) please answer soon :-) :-)

      Because gravity keeps you stuck to the surface of the Earth, so you always feel like space is ‘up’. Up is kind of a relative concept anyway, there’s not really an up or down in space.

      Hayley’s right. What down feels like is always the direction that gravity is pulling you, which is towards the centre of the earth. If you were standing on the moon then down would feel like towards the centre of the moon because its gravity would be acting on you.
