The furthest one we know of was discovered by the Hubble telescope last year and it has a very snappy name (not!!) : galaxy MACS0647-JD! It’s 13.3 billion light-years away, which makes it very old as the universe is only estimated to be 13.7 billion years old, so light from this galaxy has been travelling towards us for nearly the whole of time to get to our telescope – amazing stuff hey?
